SDC Platinum: Data Search Samples


SDC Platinum lets you access Securities Data Company’s online databases of financial transactions. It enables you to identify comparable transactions, monitor markets and industries, prospect for new business, and evaluate advisors. The following examples will show you how to do data searching on SDC Platinum.

Note: To access SDC Platinum, users must have the software installed on their office computer, with a valid account/user ID set-up.

Sample 1:

You need a list of all IPO's in the Portugal Marketplace between 1993 to 2003. Using the result you produce a brief customized report that will be exported to Excel.

Step 1: Selecting a New Issues Marketplace

1. Database Selection: Global New Issues tab
2. Select International, then click on OK.
3. Category Selection: double-click All Euro & Foreign New Issues
4. Double-click on Euro & Foreign Common Stock, then click on OK.
5. Issue Date: Enter From 1993 to 2003 , then click on OK
        (You cannot use TODAY, but must use a date at least 30 days prior to today's date.)

Step 2: Selecting IPO's

1. Search Items: from window Deal tab, double-click on IPO Flag.
2. Accept the default: Select All IPO's.
3. Issuer/Borrower: double-click Issuer/Borrower Nation, then click Europe.
4. Double-click Portugal, then OK.
5. Click on Close
6. Click the Execute icon (You will see your number of hits.)

Step 3: Creating a New Custom Report

1. Click on Report (at the top of the screen) and then on New Custom...
2. Express Report Items: (Basics) click on
       Name, Business, Nation, Offer Date, Proceeds, Offer Price, Total fees..
3. Then OK.
4. Design Custom Report Format: (displays your request items) OK.
5. Save Custom Report name: IPO
6. Save
7. Enter a title: All IPO's in Portugal
8. OK

Step 4: Saving the Search Results

1. To display your report to the screen, click on the Execute icon
2. To SAVE your report to a spreadsheet, click on the Save icon. It will download to d:\sdc
3. Enter a file name: IPO icon
4. Change file type to .xls
5. Save [Your file is saved in Excel.]


Sample 2:

To produce a report for all Worldwide M&A transactions involving television broadcasting companies as targets since 1/1/2003. The transactions must be completed.

Step 1: Selecting an M&A Database

1. Database Selection: Mergers & Acquisitions tab
2. Click on US Targets, and Non-US Targets then click on OK.
3. Date Range: 1/1/2003 and to 12/31/2003, then OK

Step 2: Selecting the Broadcasting industry and Deal Value

1. Search Items: double-click Company, then Target All SIC
2. Target All SIC: double-click Radio and Television Broadcasting Stations
3. Double-click on double-click Television Broadcasting Stations, then OK
4. Click the Execute icon
5. Click on Deal tab, then select Deal Status and double-click it
6. Double-click Completed
7. OK
8. Click on Close
9. Click the Execute icon (You will see your number of hits.)

To look at your list of companies
1. click on Utilities at the top of the screen,
2. then Quick Display from the pulldown menu,
3. and then on Standard Display (Date, Target, Acquiror and Value are now displayed.)
4. Click Select All Items, then click OK.
5. Keep or Exclude: Keep

To create and save a report, follow the instructions at the end of Sample 1 (step 3 & 4).
