Compustat : Using a Sample Program

Make sure you are connected to the research server (Windows) Copy the program file or folder to a local directory, then run the program. All SAS was tested using version 8.2 and version 9.01. (To extract the new format COMPUSTAT ASCII Industrial data in SAS, you need to use an experimental catalog and you must first cimport it.) All FORTRAN was compiled and tested using the Compaq Visual Fortran 6.6 compiler. (Some of the sample Fortran programs use a project workspace while other samples use a single source file. See instructions below.)

The following sample programs are available in the research server \cb_programs\cstat\ directory:

Annual Industrial Files
- SAS - R:\cb_programs\cstat\annual\SAS\cstat_annual.sas
- FORTRAN - R:\cb_programs\cstat\annual\FORTRAN\Annual.dsw
  (Following is an example of modifying and running a Fortran project workspace:
  1. use Fortran Developers Studio to open the file
  2. under File, click Open Workspace
  3. select the directory containing the project workspace and the .dsw file
  4. select the R:\cb_programs\cstat\annual\FORTRAN\Annual.dsw file
Quarterly Industrial Files
- SAS - R:\cb_programs\cstat\quarterly\SAS\cstat_Qtrly.sas
- FORTRAN - R:\cb_programs\cstat\quarterly\FORTRAN\Quarter.dsw
Bank Files (Annual and Quarterly)
- SAS - R:\cb_programs\cstat\bank\SAS\cstat_banka.sas & cstat_bankqtrly.sas
- FORTRAN - R:\cb_programs\cstat\bank\FORTRAN\banka.f (annual) & bankq.f (qtrly)
