Update on Computer Upgrades January 9 |
As a followup to our November email, we were finally able to place computer orders from Lenovo in December. We have received some of these computers and are busy creating standard software and security templates for each model. We expect to start replacing machines within the next month. Replacement of over 200 computers will continue throughout the spring and summer. We will notify you approximately 2 weeks in advance to schedule a date and time for your computer upgrade. The planned order of computer upgrades is as follows: New Faculty Just like with all prior upgrades, there will be an adjustment period. The new computers will include Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Office 2007, and a new email client, Outlook 2007. To assist in your transition to the new environment, we will setup a machine in the 3rd floor faculty lab and we will let you know as soon as this is ready. If you have any questions or need to place an order for a secondary office or home computer using your discretionary funds, please contact the Mendoza IT Help Desk at 1-7896 or mcobit@listerv.nd.edu . WRDS Users Conference (October 1 - October 2, 2007) May 15 |
The Conference for PhDs, faculty and researchers will take place on Monday, October 1 and Tuesday, October 2 at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
WRDS team is developing an agenda which will include split sessions to accommodate the interests of both new and experienced users. WRDS plans to have 3 tracks: Track 1 General: covering the most important aspects of using the WRDS (especially the web query interface). Track 2 Delving into dataset details, with applications. Track 3 Hands-on sessions (including web-based tools, PC SAS Connect and MATLAB). This meeting will also offer information about our future direction and give you an opportunity to meet and network with professionals at WRDS schools in many different fields. And for all tracks, we welcome suggested topics. For example, under the second topic, we have been asked to provide information about private company data sources. In order to determine potential interest, please notify Robin Gold (Robin Gold, Marketing Director, Wharton Research Data Services, The Wharton School. Voice: 215.898.9065 . E-mail: Rnuss@wharton.upenn.edu ) whether there is either a strong chance or a likely chance that you, a colleague, faculty member, or PhD student will be able to attend. Please note that this does not need to be a firm commitment, and any reply would help me greatly in determining the expected number of attendees and planning the event.Additional information on the sessions and hotel accommodations will be available this summer. You may also view this information on our WRDS site at http://wrds.wharton.upenn.edu/cgi-bin/news.cgi?URI=/news/sideitem/usersmeeting.shtml . |
