Printable Version of this Question and AnswerPRINT

Windows Vista machines:

When notified by OIT that your NetID password is about to expire, the only place you need to change your password is the Password Change Page at https://accounts.nd.edu/password.  After you change your password, reboot your computer and use your new password to login.

Windows XP machines:

You will need to change your password in 2 places so that all of your network drives map at login:

1)  OIT Password Change Website
Click the following link to change your Password on the OIT Password Change Websitehttps://password.nd.edu/Change.aspx

Note:  If you are using the Netscape browser to change your password, you may be prompted with a box asking what password to change.  Scroll through the list in this box and choose SMTP or simply cancel out of the window.

2)  Windows Login Password (so that it matches the one you entered on the Password Change website).  Scroll down to view instructions for Desktop Users and Laptop Users.

For Desktop Users:

  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete on your keyboard after logging onto your machine
  2. Select Change Password
  3. Type in your Old Password
  4. Type in your New Password
  5. Confirm New Password
  6. Click OK
  7. Click the Start menu
  8. Click on Log Off
  9. The next time you login to Windows, use the new password.

For Laptop Users:

  1. Click the Start menu
  2. Select Control Panel
  3. Switch to category view if you don't see the same view as below
  4. Click on User Accounts
  5. Click on Change an account
  6. Click on your Account
  7. Click on Change my password
  8. Type in your Old Password
    Type in your New Password
Type the new password again to confirm
    Click Change Password
